Well the first week back at ucol has been a good start.  Enjoyed learning more about Eriksons theories, i have studied these before but a long time ago so it was a nice refresher for me. I have enjoyed watching people since going thru this again to see what stage they are in and if they "act" in the right stages.

Also i have enjoyed learning a bit more about non verbal communication, i am not a big talker so again like to observe.  Recently i have been watching people wherever i am to see what their body language says about what they might be thinking, also to see if what they are saying and doing is consistent with teach other.

It was great to learn about Emotional Intelligence, i can be quite an emotional person - not in the sense of crying or whatever-but its good to know that we have 2 1/2 years to learn to control our emotions before starting in the nursing workforce so my plan is to try and start that now so that where ever i am and whatever i am doing i need to control ALL my emotions

All in all i think that this has been a good starting point to a nursing career and thinking about all these other aspects that we need to incorporate into our day to day nursing, its not just about blood, guts and caring for people, nursing is so much more!!

Hi Nicola,

you are right nursing is about so much more, it more that the things we can do for people, and it is a complete experience, and emotions play a big part in that experience. I find emotional intelligence really interesting when interacting with people and being able to assess the emotions behind the words. It an area that we will always be reflecting on and reviewing.
