Phil Baumann, a nurse blogger, is a man with a mission. His stated raison d'etre, "to discover how to improve the health of every child, woman and man on this planet" is a lofty one, but somehow, we believe that he could do it, or at least give it a good try. Let's take a closer look at Mr. Baumann's world.

"My name is Phil Baumann. I am a Registered Nurse with a background in critical care, drug safety, accountancy, finance, treasury operations, and recruiting. Different, huh?"

Thus, we are introduced to Mr. Baumann, a Baccalaureate nurse since 2005, graduate of Drexel University School of Nursing, having experienced the ICU, the pharmaceutical industry, and now, a sojourn into exploring Web 2.0 and its implications for health, health care, and nursing.

Another statement on his website says a great deal about Mr. Baumann's desire to understand the world and how technology interacts with---and changes--our lives.

"I believe that the rest of the 21st century will bring enormous changes in the way we conduct business and I am currently planning to stay on the curve by being ahead of the curve. One of my hopes is that my blogging will reflect my progression into the many promising components of what is generally referred to as Web 2.0. Who knows, maybe something remarkable will evolve out this little experiment."

As a writer and blogger, I am intrigued by Mr. Baumann's thirst for knowledge, his excellent writing, his understanding of technology, all of it coupled with a deep compassion and desire to improve the health of the world.

Posting about how to be a better nurse, nurses and social media, and the vicissitudes and absurdities of HIPAA, Mr. Baumann demonstrates what happens when an active and creative mind connects with a passion for knowledge and the development of particular skills. For Mr. Baumann, he has married clinical acumen, technological know-how, and a very evident high level of curiosity and inquiry, bringing to us a fascinating blog that deserves frequent visitation.

I'm very pleased to have discovered Mr. Baumann's blog, and we are all very lucky that he has decided to share his worldview---and significant skills---with us.
