A new 14-month nursing Baccalaureate program in Nevada will combine the resources of the University of Oklahoma School of Nursing with the St. Rose Dominican Hospitals in Las Vegas.

In an effort to combat a monumental shortage of nurses in the Las Vegas area, the University of Oklahoma and the St. Rose Dominican Hospitals are negotiating the creation of a Baccalaureate program for individuals with previous Bachelor's degrees who wish to earn a Bachelor's in Nursing.

With the guidance of Orbis Education, a company that assists nursing schools and hospitals in creating and managing joint educational programs, the program will offer a 14-month course of study with online courses taught by faculty of the University of Oklahoma School of Nursing, and clinical rotations in the Las Vegas area.

Similar programs with successful track records already exist in Oklahoma, San Diego, and at Nevada State College. Although students in the Las Vegas area will pay out-of-state tuition rates to the University of Oklahoma (approximtely $35,000), they will earn a fast-track route to a Baccalaureate nursing degree at a time of an unprecedented shortage of nurses around the globe.
