A recent study published in the European Journal of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation demonstrates that some patients will continue to experience "persistent or worsening" depression following coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABGS).

The study shows that although most patients will experience mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression prior to surgery, a percentage will experience persistent---or sometimes worsening---symptoms more than six months after surgery. This significant finding could be extrapolated as meaning that certain patients may need additional support and treatment in order to prevent long-term negative consequences.
