Sometimes strikes are necessary in order to bring attention to an issue, especially of other less disruptive tactics have not worked. Think about the garbage strikes in the 60s in many cities---that was disruptive and unsanitary, but if unfair labor practices are being used, a strike is often necessary. Unions have gotten a bad rap over time, but you have to give thanks to the labor movement---they're the folks who brought you the weekend!
