They are expensive! They use batteries. But the acoustics are phenomenal. Some of the electronic scopes will even give you a digital heart rate. They are great for noisy environments because they block out background noise. Check them out on ebay and you can get a better feel for what is out there and what they can do. It would benefit people with hearing deficits as well since they have a volume adjustment.

I use an electronic stethoscope because of hearing loss as a young man. I find it very helpful as you can pump up the volume and move between high pitched and low pitched sounds with the touch of a switch. The best part is they are noise canceling. They filter out other sounds. I think they are awesome. If you are looking to buy a stethoscope go to ebay. There are plenty available and the high end scopes can be significantly cheaper. Mine is a $800 electronic. My wife got 2 one for me one for her for $200 each. They are much better than the cardiology II I had.
